Things I Have Done Today

1. Laundry (a work in perpetual progress)

2. Jogged (or "ran", if you prefer) behind the kids on their bikes to school.

3. "Tucked husband in".

4. Rode bike as far as the brewery, which took 15 minutes. Looks like the park with the old tugboat is doable on bikes. Woo! Made notes to go for another solo ride soon to see how far I can get in 15 minutes in another direction.

5. Rode to pick up DS. Remembered that DS needs a helmet (his bike was chained at the school).

6. Returned home and back to school again with helmet in somewhat less than 9 minutes.

7. Was rude to very nice Grade 3 teacher*.

8. Felt guilty.

9. Called other volunteer mom (OVM) to confess.

10. Felt better, somewhat.

*Conversation:

Me: So why did we pick up all those hot dogs on Monday?

Note: OVM and I I go shopping for the Breakfast Program on Mondays. Everyone knows this. If you let us know in advance, we will pick things up for you, like hot dogs and buns and freezies for 60 kids. Even if by "in advance", we apparently mean "just as we're walking out the door on Monday".

Note 2: At the same time, OVM was asked to cook and serve the hot dogs, etc. Because we have nothing better to do with our lives. She said yes, but then remembered she has an eye appointment that day. She says that when she told Other Grade 3 teacher, the teacher looked at her as if to say "Well, how can we do this, then?" Well hey. Tell you what. You've had this planned for some time, right? Let us in on it with more than a couple day's notice. We're busy, believe it or not. Or hey. Do it your-freaking-selves.

Her: Oh, we're having a track meet on Friday for all the Grade 3's.

Note: Apparently, it's more of a graduation party, since all the Grade 3's will be moving on to another school next year.

Her: We're going to need juice boxes, too.

Me *smiling, and without thinking*: Well, you'll have to do that yourselves; we're done. Well...there's one more shopping day on Monday and then that's it.

More perfectly pleasant conversation followed and we went our separate ways. But now I wish I hadn't said that. Just because I'm feeling put-upon doesn't mean I should say the first thing that pops into my head. Honestly, sometimes I just have no internal censor.

Now I have confessed my rudeness for all the Internet to see.

Painting

Ye gods how I hate painting. But that's just what we're going to do with some of the tax return. What this means is that I will have to clean 4 rooms: the living room, the dining room (they're really one big room somewhat separated by a sort of frame), DD's room, DS's room and the stairwell. We also plan to put that stone finish stuff on the front porch so that we will look less like a crack house. Yes, the peeling paint on the porch is ugly, but I really object to the paint being on there in the first place. I have been scraping bits of it off for ages now. I guess I'll have to actually make a day of it or something.

I just hate painting. Well, the painting itself isn't too bad. I don't like the taping off and moving stuff and running into problems. If all there was to it was slapping a coat of paint on a wall, it'd be just fine.

Pissy

I have a sore throat.

I will be on my period in about 3 more days.

My sinuses are acting up and my face hurts sometimes. I take pills, but they only last so long, and then you can't take any more.

I am mad at someone, but I made myself send a polite PM asking hir to alter hir post. I dislike being singled out. This was totally inappropriate.

I feel pissy.

Editted to not be so much of a hypocrite

Diaryish Entry

DH took March Break off.

Monday: Tobogganing, then to the mall to use up LaSenza gift certificate. Got butterfly jammies for DD, pink, of course and pink teddy for me. I have decided to try to break out my comfort zone. So why not pink, I said! I even bought a dark pink shirt and a patterned shirt with my gift certificate to Reitman's. Not what I would have normally chosen.

Tuesday: Nothing. That was nice.

Wednesday: Butterfly Conservatory! The using up of more Christmas gift certificates. This was fun, though no butterflies landed on us. We even got to take a couple pics of DD with (dead) scorpions. She had spent a month working on a speech about scorpions for school.

Thursday: Shopping for groceries. We found exercise balls on special, so we got a couple for the kids to bounce on. I did the exercises. My abs hurt.

Friday: Provincial Park for maple syrup festival. Collected all the clues and decoded the message, so now the kids are park rangers! Basically, it's a frequent-user card. We'll probably go camping there this summer. I didn't realise they had added camping facilities in 2002. Kewl.

Saturday: Karate, cooking classes. I spent two freaking hours scanning archival photos from the school to make into a presentation for the official closing. Why in the world can I not just keep my mouth shut? I could *not* be doing this. I'm still not finished. It'll be another 2 hours to get the last batch of photos scanned in. OTOH, it's so cool holding photos from 1914 in my hands.

Seriously, my abs hurt.

I'm feeling better. I had been feeling very run down. Then I went to give blood and got deferred for low iron. Now I'm doing better eating properly. I went to Health Canada's site and printed off a meal tracker thing for all of us. I put each in a plastic sleeve and everyone gets a dry-erase marker. We can check off when we eat our grains and fruit, etc. It's working OK for me, but we've been slacking over the March Break.

Happy New Year!

We've already had Chinese food and eaten cake and ice cream. We are currently watching "Transformers" and will watch "Ratatouille" or possibly "The Incredible Journey" later. The kids will stay up late and we'll all clink glasses of ginger ale at midnight.

Good thoughts to all of you. Stay safe!

Kim Is My Favourite

Thank-you, Secret Santa!
How cool! I really wish I could upload pictures from my camera, but my computer doesn't have enough memory, so here is a thank-you bear instead. This cheese-topped star is great. I love it! I posted at the other place, but wanted to make sure my appreciation was known.
